ABOUT SERAFINO

Serafino grew up between the cold waters of California and the warm Mediterranean Sea, where he was exposed early to the diversity and wonder of the ocean. As a kid he spent entire days snorkeling and freediving, exploring every hidden space he could reach and diving deeper than his parents were comfortable with. His connection to the water grew with him, and he earned his SCUBA certification at 15 before later becoming an instructor.

Today, Serafino has extensive experience in freediving and advanced technical diving, including mixed gases, rebreathers, and overhead environments. He is a cofounder and director of Divers Atlas, a nonprofit dedicated to safe exploration and accurate underwater mapping. His work has been published in InDepth Magazine, and he is currently completing a Master of Science in Marine Conservation Biology.

Photography became his other passion after years assisting his father, a professional photographer. He learned the craft early and refined his skills through shooting parkour athletes throughout his teens, rarely seen without a camera. Over time he developed a sharp eye for capturing powerful moments both above and below the surface.

Now he brings these two lifelong pursuits together, using his training as a technical diver and his background in photography to reveal the hidden world beneath the water. His style relies on classic photographic principles with minimal post processing, preserving the natural character of marine environments. His goal is simple: create genuine emotional connections between viewers and the underwater world he is dedicated to exploring and protecting.

Education and other Professional Life:

Serafino attended Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University attaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering. He is now a professional pilot, flight instructor and photographer.
